Ex-mayor of Louisiana seduces son's 16-year-old friend and lands behind bars

In the U.S., the former mayor of a city in Louisiana who seduced and raped her son's friend was sentenced to three months in prison.

40-year-old Misty Roberts, who became the first woman mayor in the history of the city of De Ridder, was arrested on August 1, 2024, and charged with seducing a 16-year-old teenager. It later emerged that the victim was a friend of her son.

The woman threw a pool party for her offspring's birthday. Dressed in a swimsuit, the mayor drank with the teenagers and then began flirting with one of them. She then took the schoolboy into the house and had sex with him. This happened in front of the politician's son and daughter, who saw what was happening through the window.

The mayor pleaded guilty and managed to avoid a harsh punishment. At the court hearing on June 9, Roberts repented and said that power had gone to her head. "I will regret it for the rest of my life. I have a perfect family, wonderful children, but at some point I began to put myself above everyone around me," the former mayor said.

The prosecutor insisted that the woman was trying to deceive the court and felt no remorse. Nevertheless, the court sentenced Roberts to only 90 days in prison, although the prosecution demanded 17 years of imprisonment for her. In addition, the woman was given two five-year suspended sentences, ordered to undergo a rehabilitation program, and prohibited from drinking alcohol.
