U.S. again bans sale of Iranian oil

The U.S. has revoked the temporary permit allowing Iran to sell oil, BBC reports.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury said it is withdrawing the temporary lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil due to strikes on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia and Qatar stated that their tankers were fired upon by Iran. The U.S. Treasury called these strikes "completely unacceptable."

The temporary lifting of sanctions, that is, permission for Iran to extract, sell, and deliver oil to buyers, was among the steps included in the peace memorandum of understanding signed by the U.S. and Iran in June.

The memorandum was conceived as a step toward a peace agreement, negotiations for which the parties are currently conducting.
