IAEA investigates information about attack on under-construction nuclear power plant in Iran
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is checking information about a nighttime attack on the under-construction nuclear power plant "Darkhovin" in Iran.
According to Report, citing an IAEA post on social network X, the facility is at the initial stage of construction and does not pose a threat of radioactive contamination.
In the agency's statement, it is noted that during the last inspection, no nuclear materials were recorded on the territory of the under-construction nuclear power plant, and therefore the military strike did not create a radiological hazard. Against the backdrop of what happened, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi once again appealed to the parties to the conflict to completely refrain from conducting hostilities near any facilities related to nuclear activities. The agency added that it is in constant contact with the Iranian side and will continue to inform the international community as data is clarified.
In parallel with this, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) issued an official condemnation of the attack, placing responsibility for the incident on the United States of America. In a message distributed with reference to the AEOI in the Telegram channel of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the actions of the American side were called a direct violation of international law. According to the agency's information, US armed forces struck the facility on Sunday around 03:39 local time. To date, official data on the extent of destruction and material damage have not been made public.
