Severe flooding in New York leads to flight cancellations and road blockages
In New York and neighboring areas, serious flooding occurred, caused by heavy downpours and thunderstorms that hit the region after several days of smog from wildfires in Canada.
As CNN reports citing REN-TV, the bad weather led to massive disruptions in the transport system and flooding of residential premises.
Warnings of flash floods were issued in all five boroughs of New York, as well as in several counties of neighboring New Jersey. The most intense precipitation was recorded in Lower Manhattan, western Brooklyn, and Queens.
As a result of the natural disaster, subway stations were flooded, key highways were blocked, and dozens of flights were canceled. On some city streets, the water level rose to residents' waists. City services urged residents of basement apartments to temporarily move to higher floors of buildings. Rescue operations on water are currently underway in the affected areas.
