Trump prepares new tariffs against dozens of countries

President of the United States Donald Trump may introduce tariffs ranging from 10% to 12.5% on goods from 60 countries as early as this week.

The Financial Times newspaper reports this, citing informed sources.

It is noted that the new measures may be introduced after the expiration on July 17 of the current 10 percent tariff. Officials have prepared several options for future actions for the U.S. president, the article says.

The legal basis for the new restrictions could be an investigation into the alleged use of forced labor, launched in March of this year. Such a procedure will provide the Trump administration with the opportunity to bypass the restrictions established by the Supreme Court after the cancellation of import tariffs introduced by the head of state.

According to FT, at the beginning the new restrictions are expected to be comparable to the current rate of 10%. At the same time, the team of the American leader is conducting other trade investigations that in the future may allow the introduction of higher tariffs.
