US Congress adopts bill on government funding

The US House of Representatives voted for a bill allowing federal agencies to maintain funding at the current level until December 4 and avoid a shutdown until the end of the fiscal year ahead of the midterm elections, American media report.

"For" were voted by 220 congressmen, "against" were expressed by 205 members of the chamber.

At the same time, six Democrats joined the 213 Republicans who supported the bill, while only one Republican voted against it.

The bill is now sent to the Senate, where its adoption "is fraught with great difficulties due to the 60-vote threshold and potential opposition from Democrats," The Hill notes.

The fiscal year in the US lasts from October 1 to September 30 and is directly linked to the budget cycle.

Midterm elections to the US Congress are scheduled for November 3, 2026.
