In the US, sale of Chinese cars will be banned
A bill has been introduced in the US Senate that could completely close access for Chinese automakers to the US market.

The initiative calls for a ban on the sale of passenger cars controlled by Chinese companies by more than 15%. In addition, requirements for software that controls batteries, as well as communication systems and satellite navigation, are planned to be tightened.
The main argument of the legislators is the threat to national security. American politicians fear that cars with Chinese technology could discreetly collect sensitive data from US citizens and transmit it abroad.
Although the law has not yet been adopted, a serious struggle has already unfolded around it. Mercedes-Benz, 20% of whose shares belong to the Chinese auto giant Geely, is showing particular activity. The German brand is actively lobbying for amendments, but the company does not provide official comments.
Major American players have already begun to revise their strategies. General Motors announced that by 2028 it will move production of the Buick Envision model back to the US. Ford also plans to return production of its Chinese Lincoln models to their homeland. And Waymo (a subsidiary of Google) has decided to abandon cooperation with Geely in favor of American partners.
The effect of the possible ban is already being felt. The Swedish brand Polestar, which is actually controlled by Geely, warned that from 2027 it may completely leave the American market. Volvo Cars (also owned by a Chinese company) has so far received temporary permission to operate, but under strict conditions.
