Trump again accused of unsubstantiated statements

The Swiss government rejected accusations regarding the use of forced labor made against it by US President Donald Trump in justifying the introduction of new tariffs.

In turn, the Swiss business association Economiesuisse did not find the American tariffs understandable or justified. They stated that Washington has no evidence that the supply chains used by this European country are needed for smuggling goods produced using forced labor to the US market. In this regard, Washington's position was characterized as unfounded. The association called not to forget that forced labor in Switzerland is already prohibited by constitutional, civil and criminal legislation.

Economiesuisse believes that the new US duties put Swiss companies at a disadvantage compared to competitors from regions with lower tariff rates, such as the European Union and the United Kingdom.

It was previously reported that the US imposed double-digit tariffs on imports from 60 countries, explaining this as a fight against forced labor. Canada, Australia and Brazil categorically disagreed with such accusations. In France, it was stated that US actions create uncertainty for world trade.
