Sahiba Gafarova held a meeting with the prime minister of Ethiopia
On July 29, as part of her official visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the country's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.

It is reported that during the meeting, a broad exchange of views took place on the prospects for developing friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ethiopia.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali noted that Azerbaijan has earned high prestige on the international stage, and emphasized that our country's successes under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev are received with great appreciation at the international level. Recalling with satisfaction his official visit to Azerbaijan in February 2026 and his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, he noted that the fruitful discussions held during the meeting gave new impetus to the development of ties between our countries, and the agreements reached created an important foundation for expanding cooperation.
The prime minister asked that his sincere greetings be conveyed to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Emphasizing his country's interest in expanding economic cooperation with Azerbaijan, Abiy Ahmed Ali pointed to the importance of implementing projects, in particular in the oil and gas sector. He noted that the effective use of the existing potential in these areas serves the interests of both countries.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended and particularly noted the rapid development she observed in the country during the visit. She emphasized that this visit opens favorable opportunities for expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ethiopia in new areas.
During the meeting, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova spoke about our country's path of development, noting the exceptional contributions of the great leader Heydar Aliyev in strengthening the traditions of statehood and shaping the development strategy of modern Azerbaijan. She emphasized that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan is confidently advancing along the path of dynamic development, and our country's international standing and prestige are consistently strengthening.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis drew attention to the fact that the sincere relations and mutual high-level contacts formed between Azerbaijan and Ethiopia at the level of heads of state play an important role in the development of bilateral cooperation.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also informed the prime minister about the large-scale restoration and construction measures being implemented by Azerbaijan in the territories liberated from occupation at its own expense.
During the conversation, it was emphasized that the existing inter-parliamentary ties make an important contribution to the further development of relations between the two countries. The significance of mutual visits by parliamentary leaders and deputies was noted, and an exchange of views took place on issues of interaction and cooperation within the framework of international parliamentary organizations.
At the meeting, confidence was expressed that political, economic, humanitarian and inter-parliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ethiopia will continue to develop successfully.
