UEFA issues statement amid proposed payments in support of Infantino's World Cup plan

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has issued a statement amid the proposed payments in support of FIFA President Gianni Infantino's plan to sell a stake in the World Cup.

It was reported earlier that Infantino had offered FIFA member countries financial support of $40 million each on the condition that the deal be approved.

"Today's news of a deadline set by FIFA for associations to back the proposals, or else the one-off payment offer will be withdrawn, speaks for itself about this plan.

However, having held discussions with many stakeholders across football, UEFA understands that there is significant and growing opposition to FIFA's scheme. FIFA cannot continue to use our sport to enrich itself and its friends. We can grow the game the right way. It is time to prioritize associations, clubs, leagues, players and fans," reads the press service statement on UEFA's page on the social network X.

Infantino is developing a sale plan that could potentially bring him personally tens of millions of pounds, and negotiations have been conducted with figures close to the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. A number of football organizations and sports figures have condemned such a decision.
