SOCAR calls Azerbaijan's pipelines "arteries" for supplying Europe

In an interview with the Euronews television channel, top managers of the energy company SOCAR discussed Azerbaijan's growing role in ensuring European energy security amid a 56 percent increase in natural gas exports to the EU compared with 2021.

Speaking on the program Business Horizons, SOCAR Deputy Vice President Vitaly Beylarbekov described the country's transit corridors, including the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline and the South Caucasus Pipeline, as vital "arteries connecting us with the rest of the world."

Supplies are carried out via the 3,500-kilometer Southern Gas Corridor — a transportation network managed by the state company SOCAR. In 2025, Italy remained the largest European consumer of Azerbaijani gas, importing 9.5 billion cubic meters, which accounted for 16% of its total gas imports.

Operations Director Elkhan Sultanov emphasized that "in our industry, precision is crucial." He explained that constant monitoring along the entire 3,500-kilometer Southern Gas Corridor is necessary to guarantee safe and uninterrupted supplies throughout Europe.
