Media: FIFA has still not paid the promised $250 million for the 2025 Club World Cup
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has still not paid the promised £185 million (about $250 million) in solidarity payments to clubs that did not take part in the 2025 Club World Cup, the Daily Express writes.
These funds were conceived as a way to distribute part of the tournament's revenue throughout the football pyramid, so that the gap between the participating clubs and the rest would not become too large.
It was initially assumed that every top-division club in the world would receive £50,000 ($67,500), but no payments have followed.
The tournament was held from June 14 to July 13, 2025, in the United States with the participation of 32 teams. The winner of the tournament was Chelsea, which beat Paris Saint-Germain in the final (3:0).
The Daily Express also writes that the holding of the next Club World Cup in 2029 is now under threat. The host country has not yet been determined, and no agreement on participation has been reached between FIFA and the leading European clubs.
Australia and New Zealand, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, and England have expressed interest in hosting the tournament. However, according to a source, the most likely hosts will be either Qatar or the United States.
