Trump did not name deadlines for reaching an agreement between the U.S. and Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking with journalists aboard his plane en route to Washington, declined to set any deadlines for concluding an agreement on a peaceful settlement with Iran.

"We'll see how it all goes," he said. "Would I prefer to make a deal? I don't want to kill people." At the same time, the American leader warned that his country is ready "at any time" to launch massive strikes against the Islamic republic.

Earlier, he stated that the United States and Iran would move to negotiations on a peace deal on August 3. In addition, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he had agreed to call off a planned powerful strike against the republic for the sake of reaching a deal with Tehran. According to the president, Iran and several Middle Eastern states asked Washington to refrain from the attack, since the parties had already outlined the contours of a future agreement. As Trump noted, it should include the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the elimination of the Iranian nuclear threat.
