American outlet: Aliyev called Azerbaijan-U.S. relations the best in 34 years

The American outlet Breitbart News devoted a separate article to the first anniversary of the Washington peace summit, noting the role of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump in shaping a new political reality in the South Caucasus.

As the outlet writes, Ilham Aliyev, addressing Donald Trump on the occasion of the anniversary of the August 8, 2025 meeting, emphasized the American leader's contribution to ending the years-long Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and creating a foundation for reconciliation and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Breitbart recalls that a year ago at the White House, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, with the participation of Donald Trump, held a historic meeting, following which the foreign ministers of the two countries initialed a peace agreement, and the leaders signed a Joint Declaration.

The American outlet pays particular attention to the practical results achieved over the past year. Among them are the lifting of restrictions on freight transportation toward Armenia, the start of deliveries of Azerbaijani petroleum products, as well as the transit of grain and other goods through the territory of Azerbaijan.

The publication also notes the telephone conversation between Ilham Aliyev and Donald Trump that took place on August 8. The leaders discussed the development of Azerbaijani-Armenian trade and the implementation of TRIPP — the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity." According to data cited by Breitbart with reference to the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan, the construction of the relevant infrastructure on the Azerbaijani side is nearing completion.

Breitbart places separate emphasis on the rapid development of relations between Baku and Washington after the Washington summit.

The outlet quotes President Ilham Aliyev as saying that today Azerbaijani-American ties have reached "the highest level in the 34-year history of diplomatic relations" between the two countries.

In this context, Breitbart recalls the visit to Azerbaijan by U.S. Vice President JD Vance and the signing of the Charter of Strategic Partnership, covering investment, trade, energy, transport, artificial intelligence, and security issues. The outlet also notes Donald Trump's decision to extend the suspension of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, which Ilham Aliyev called an important step toward the restoration of historical justice.

Breitbart also cites a statement made earlier by Ilham Aliyev at the IV Shusha Global Media Forum. The President of Azerbaijan then emphasized the difference between the current American administration and its predecessors, which, in his words, for decades effectively managed the conflict and kept it in a frozen state, whereas Donald Trump's team was able to create the political conditions under which achieving peace became possible.

Thus, the American outlet views the year that has passed since the Washington summit not only as a period of consolidating peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but also as a stage of qualitative transformation of relations between Baku and Washington, as well as the formation of a new system of economic and transport links in the South Caucasus.
