Media: Trump administration established a secret communication channel with the IRGC leadership

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump established a secret communication channel in May with the leadership of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) through the head of Iraqi Kurdistan, Nechirvan Barzani.

As 1news.az reports, this was announced by Axios, citing sources.

According to the publication, the White House wanted to find out whether the IRGC leadership supported the arrangements discussed with the United States by Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

At the request of Tulsi Gabbard, who at that time held the post of U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Barzani contacted the corps commander Ahmad Vahidi. He stated that the IRGC supports the negotiations and favors resolving the crisis through diplomatic means.

Later, Washington proposed holding secret talks between representatives of the United States and Iran in Erbil, but the meeting did not take place because of the Iranian side's concerns over the security of its delegation.
