Man wanted through Interpol extradited from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan
As a result of negotiations held after the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan sent an extradition request to the competent authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the submission of documents required in accordance with international procedures, an agreement was reached on the extradition of Azerbaijani citizen Asgarov Tahir Aydin oglu to his homeland.
1news.az was informed of this by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Thus, on the basis of the materials of the criminal case, the preliminary investigation of which is being conducted by the Main Operational Investigation Department of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, grounds were identified to suspect that Asgarov Tahir Aydin oglu, as part of a group of persons by prior conspiracy, smuggled a large consignment of drugs across the country's customs border without declaring it, with the intent to sell it.
On the basis of the collected evidence, on February 25, 2026, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a decision was made to charge him under Articles 206.3.2, 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (smuggling committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of a large consignment of drugs with the intent to sell). In connection with his evasion of the investigation, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against him, and through the Interpol National Central Bureau in Baku he was put on the international wanted list.
As a result of the operational search measures carried out, T. Asgarov was detained on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
After the completion of the extradition procedure, he was brought to the Republic of Azerbaijan by employees of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice and handed over to the investigative body.
The Prosecutor General's Office will continue its close cooperation with foreign partner structures, including Interpol, in determining the whereabouts of persons on the international wanted list and their extradition to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
