The issue of the Armenian and Azerbaijani enclaves must be settled in such a way as to ensure long-term peaceful coexistence and not create new problems for residents of border areas.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this at a briefing after a government session, Armenian media report.

According to him, in line with the delimitation principle agreed upon by Yerevan and Baku, Karki, Barkhudarly and Yukhary Askipara are territories of Azerbaijan.

Pashinyan recalled that Armenia and Azerbaijan had agreed to carry out delimitation on the basis of the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, according to which the administrative borders of the former Soviet republics at the time of the collapse of the USSR are recognized as interstate borders.

According to the prime minister, there is an understanding that the process should proceed on the same basis.

"The issue must be resolved, but without a military option: that is a page of the past, which is closed. It must be resolved in a way that is convenient for both sides, including for the people living on the ground," Pashinyan said.
