Seventeen people killed and hundreds of tourists missing due to flooding in Nepal
A powerful flood occurred in the mountainous Rasuwa district of Nepal due to a rise in the water level of the Bhote Koshi River.
The flow of water washed away several villages, killing at least 17 people. This was reported by the BBC, citing police data.
As Chinese media, including Xinhua, write, the flood affected the port of Gyirong in Tibet. Because of the emergency, roads were closed and communications and electricity were cut off in the border area of Shigatse in Tibet. Chinese President Xi Jinping called for "comprehensive" efforts to search for those missing.
According to Nepal's Jardan, nine servicemen were injured by a landslide on the border, and more than 20 employees of law enforcement agencies went missing. Nepal's Tourism Board announced 384 missing tourists.
The greatest damage was recorded in the mountainous Rasuwa district. Local authorities urged people living along the Bhote Koshi River to move to higher ground.
