Dutch Embassy thanks Azerbaijan for rescuing tourist injured in the mountainous area of Sheki

The Embassy of the Netherlands in Azerbaijan has expressed gratitude to the country's relevant agencies for rescuing a Dutch citizen who found herself in a dangerous situation in the mountainous area of Sheki on August 29, as well as for the emergency medical care provided to her.

"We especially thank the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan for carrying out the rescue operation in difficult mountainous terrain and in the dark, for the prompt evacuation by helicopter and for providing first aid at the scene," the embassy's statement said.

The diplomatic mission also praised the professionalism and prompt actions of the medical staff of the Sheki Central District Hospital and Yeni Klinika.

The embassy emphasized that the coordinated and prompt work of the relevant agencies played an important role in ensuring the safety of the Dutch citizen.

To recall, on August 29 the tourist was attacked by dogs while hiking toward the Chelengi pasture in the village of Bash-Zeyzid and sustained injuries of varying severity.

Medical and rescue teams of the State Border Service were dispatched by helicopter to assist the victim. The rescue operation was carried out at an altitude of about 2,000 meters. The tourist was given first aid and then taken by helicopter to the Sheki Central District Hospital.

It is reported that the victim underwent emergency surgery.
