President Ilham Aliyev congratulates the Secretary General of the OIC

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter of congratulations to the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

The letter was published on the official website of the President of Azerbaijan. The letter says:

"Dear Mr. Secretary General,

I cordially congratulate you on your election to the post of Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and wish you success in your forthcoming responsible activities.

Azerbaijan attaches special importance to cooperation with the OIC, and the current level of our relations is gratifying. During the 35 years of its membership in the organization, Azerbaijan has played a proactive and responsible role in the activities of the OIC, contributed to strengthening Islamic solidarity, and actively participated in enhancing the international prestige of the organization.

Azerbaijan, for its part, has always felt the unwavering support of the OIC. During the nearly 30-year aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan and in the postwar period, the OIC, demonstrating a firm stance, adopted resolutions and statements resolutely condemning the occupation, supporting the just cause, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and welcoming the construction and restoration work in our liberated territories. We highly appreciate all of this.

I express confidence in the further progressive development of close cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. As you know, in 2027 Azerbaijan will host the 16th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, as well as the 13th session of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers and other events. I hope for close and fruitful cooperation with you in this direction.

I believe that your leadership of this prestigious organization will serve the fulfillment of the important tasks facing the OIC and the strengthening of Islamic solidarity.
