Baku and Kyiv discuss trilateral cooperation with the UN in demining
Ukraine is interested in studying Azerbaijan's experience in humanitarian demining in urban environments and in preparing territories cleared of mines for subsequent reconstruction.
As reported by Ukraine's Ministry of Economy and Environment, this issue was discussed during a meeting between the Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), Vugar Suleymanov, and the head of the Humanitarian Demining Department at Ukraine's Ministry of Economy, Dmytro Panshin.
The meeting took place as part of the IV International Conference on Mine Action in Baku, held on September 2-3.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the expansion of joint projects and the exchange of practical experience.
In particular, the Ukrainian side expressed interest in Azerbaijan's experience in the humanitarian demining of urban areas and their preparation for further reconstruction. In addition, the parties discussed the possibilities of trilateral cooperation in the Ukraine-Azerbaijan-UN format.
The Ukrainian side also invited ANAMA to take part in the Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC 2026), which will be held in mid-November in Brussels.
Furthermore, during the Baku conference, Ukraine strengthened its interaction with representatives of national mine action authorities of other states affected by the problem of mine contamination. Discussions were held on the broader use of their practical experience in shaping international mechanisms, training programs, and approaches to assistance in the field of mine action.
"Ukraine is interested in strengthening cooperation with countries that have also faced mine contamination. It is important that the needs, priorities, and practical experience of such countries determine the main approaches in the field of mine action, while international partners and donors support their implementation," Dmytro Panshin noted.
