Birth rate among Azerbaijanis in Georgia declines
In the first half of 2026, 1,982 births were registered in Georgia's Kvemo Kartli region, where a significant portion of ethnic Azerbaijanis lives.
As 1news.az reports, citing APA, these figures are contained in a report by the National Statistics Office of Georgia.
Compared with the same period last year, the number of births decreased by 19, and relative to the first six months of 2024 the indicator declined by 192.
At the same time, the natural population growth in the region during the reporting period amounted to 223 people. This is four people, or 1.83 percent, more than the figure for the same period in 2025.
Statistical data from recent years indicate a decline in the birth rate in Kvemo Kartli. Despite the continuing positive natural growth, the number of registered births in the region continues to decrease.
In January-June, 1,302 marriages and 674 divorces were also registered in Kvemo Kartli.
Overall, the demographic situation in Georgia in the first half of the year was characterized by negative natural growth. The number of deaths exceeded the number of births by 4,715 people.
Positive natural growth was recorded in only two regions of the country - Tbilisi, where it amounted to 424 people, and Adjara - 330 people.
During the reporting period, 10,006 marriages and 6,095 divorces were registered throughout Georgia.
