Bahrain refuses to take part in meetings with Iran until relations are restored

Bahrain will not take part in the ministerial meeting on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz or participate in any collective meetings with Iran until diplomatic relations between the two countries are restored, according to a statement by the kingdom's Foreign Ministry.

"In light of reports in the media and on social networks about an alleged meeting of ministers on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Foreign Ministry clarifies that the Kingdom of Bahrain will not take part in it, nor will it be a party to any collective meetings involving Iran until diplomatic relations between the two countries are restored," the text says. The ministry noted that it had previously officially conveyed this position to Omani representatives through diplomatic channels. At the same time, the Foreign Ministry emphasized that its decision does not diminish its appreciation for Oman's efforts and its commitment to dialogue as a way of resolving differences.

A meeting at the level of foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf countries is due to take place in Oman on September 14. On September 11, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed the Iranian side's participation in it. According to him, in addition to regional issues, the meeting will discuss the results of the Iranian-Omani talks on determining safe routes for commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
