Producer of "The Last Emperor" Jeremy Thomas dies at the age of 77
British film producer Jeremy Thomas has died at the age of 77.
As 1news.az reports citing The Guardian, this was announced by his official representative.
"He died on Friday at his country home in Oxfordshire, surrounded by family and loved ones," he noted.
Thomas is known to many as the producer of the historical drama "The Last Emperor," for which he received an Oscar, as well as for the films "Bad Timing" (1980), "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" (1983), "Eureka" (1983), "High-Rise" (2015), "Dogman" (2018) and others.
Between 1992 and 1995, Thomas headed the British Film Institute. Later he received the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award for outstanding contribution to the cinema of the United Kingdom. Over his long career, he was honored with numerous prestigious nominations and awards at the world's leading film festivals and award ceremonies.
According to the publication, on September 14 the film "Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo" (2026), produced by Thomas, will be presented at the Toronto festival. One of the leading roles in this film by director Takashi Miike was played by actress Lily James.
