Irish president tells Trump the "normalization of war" is unacceptable
Irish President Catherine Connolly, during talks with her American counterpart Donald Trump, stated that the "normalization of war and genocide" is unacceptable.
As 1news.az reports citing Reuters, this was announced by the office of the Irish president following the meeting.
"We live in a world whose existence is threatened by war and climate change, which are inextricably linked. I expressed the firm view of the Irish people that the normalization of war and genocide is unacceptable," the statement says.
She also told the American leader that the Irish people strongly support all those who are fighting for peace throughout the world.
"During their discussion of the situation in Northern Ireland, President Connolly noted the contribution made by the United States to the peace process," the presidential office's press release says.
Earlier, at a press conference with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in Dublin, Trump said he would like to see the country united and expressed confidence that the unification of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland would eventually take place. According to him, unification would be a "fantastic thing," but the United Kingdom would obviously also have to state its position on this issue.
