Rybakina beats Sabalenka in the US Open final and will become world No. 1

Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina has won the US Open tennis championship.

In the tournament final, Rybakina defeated Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

For the 27-year-old Rybakina, this title was her first at the US Open and her third at Grand Slam tournaments. She previously won Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open in 2026.

In addition, following the tournament, Rybakina will top the WTA rankings for the first time in her career, displacing Sabalenka from the top spot. The Belarusian tennis player, who won the US Open in 2024 and 2025, was unable to claim the title in New York for a third consecutive time.
