Paris court sides with journalist who called Macron's wife a man

François Danglehant, the lawyer for French journalist Natacha Rey, stated that she has definitively won the defamation case brought by Brigitte Macron and her brother Jean-Michel Trogneux.

In 2021, Rey and Amandine Roy spread claims that the wife of the French president was allegedly born a man under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux.

In September 2024, the court found both women guilty of defamation and ordered them to pay compensation to Brigitte Macron and her brother.

However, in July 2025, the Paris Court of Appeal overturned the verdict and acquitted Rey and Roy on all counts.

After that, Brigitte Macron, Jean-Michel Trogneux and the prosecutor's office appealed the decision to the Court of Cassation.

The appeals court ruling itself did not address the question of Brigitte Macron's sex and did not confirm the claims about her biography that had been circulating online.
