Vessel attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, crew evacuated

A commercial vessel came under attack while passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

An unidentified projectile struck the ship, after which a fire broke out on board. The crew was evacuated.

Iranian authorities separately reported a strike on a commercial vessel near the island of Qeshm. One person was killed and several others were injured.

It has not yet been established whether this is the same incident.

The attack occurred amid a new escalation in the region and disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
