Robert Kocharyan is serving his detention under the supervision of a cardiologist
Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan, who is being held in custody, is under the constant supervision of a cardiologist, given the heart surgery he recently underwent, and his condition is normal, attorney Tatevik Soghoyan reported.
According to her, the former Armenian president, who was arrested at the end of August, is in a solitary cell and has no opportunity to communicate with the other detainees.
«The ex-president does everything possible to avoid having the question of his health pushed to the forefront. And the prime minister, for his part, in the most vulgar and unworthy manner constantly tries to manipulate this topic,» Soghoyan said, referring to Pashinyan's recent statement that the arrested opposition figures «were doing pull-ups on the bar a month ago, and now they are supposedly at death's door.»
Soghoyan also explained that Kocharyan is allowed visits from close relatives. One of those relatives is his son, deputy Levon Kocharyan, but his meetings with his father are being restricted.
Despite the fact that a parliamentarian, by virtue of his status, should not face restrictions, in the case of Kocharyan junior this rule does not apply. In this connection, as the lawyer noted, discussions are under way on lifting the restrictions.
Levon Kocharyan also cannot visit his older brother Sedrak, who was arrested the day before their father was taken into custody. The elder son is allowed visits only from his wife and child.
Recall that Robert Kocharyan has been charged in the case of the illegal acquisition of property. According to the investigation, during his presidency he, in collusion with other persons and using his official position, acquired a number of facilities of public and economic significance at below-market value.
