Hikmet Hajiyev: Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the U.S. in the South Caucasus

Azerbaijan is a reliable and trustworthy partner of the U.S. in the South Caucasus region.

According to Report, this was stated by Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, in an interview with NewsMax.

According to him, the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump to achieve peace between Baku and Yerevan have changed the strategic landscape of the South Caucasus and opened a new era in relations between Azerbaijan and the U.S.

"President Trump and his coming to power have completely changed the cooperation and partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan. And most importantly — peace. He brought peace to the South Caucasus region. President Trump's leadership allowed him to use his political weight in this process and bring Armenia and Azerbaijan to a final peace," he said.

Hajiyev also recalled a date important for the South Caucasus — August 8, 2025 — when, with the participation of President Donald Trump at the White House, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan signed a historic joint declaration aimed at ending a conflict of more than thirty years.

He emphasized that Donald Trump's personal involvement made it possible to achieve a result that international diplomacy had failed to achieve for decades.

Speaking about Azerbaijani-American relations, the assistant to the president pointed out that the current U.S. administration has launched a "new era" of strategic partnership with Azerbaijan.

"President Trump and President Ilham Aliyev proposed a new era in the strategic partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan and agreed to develop a new memorandum on strategic partnership between the countries," Hajiyev said.

He added that the U.S. "kept its promise" when Vice President JD Vance visited Azerbaijan and signed the document on strategic partnership.

"The strategic friendship, cooperation, and partnership between the U.S. and Azerbaijan have a solid foundation and will continue to develop in this geopolitically important region. Azerbaijan remains a reliable and trustworthy partner of the United States," he added.
