European Parliament abolishes tariffs on a number of goods for Armenia for two years

The European Parliament has abolished tariffs on a number of goods from Armenia for 2 years, with the decision taken on Tuesday. The European Commission's proposal was adopted without amendments: 583 deputies voted in favor, 49 against, and 39 abstained.

After the new rules take effect, certain EU duties (customs charges calculated as a percentage of the value of the goods) will be lifted on a wide range of Armenian products. Duty-free quotas will also be introduced for eight types of agricultural products, including grapes, apricots, cherries, peaches, and cucumbers.

The measures will be in force for two years. At the same time, safeguard mechanisms are provided for EU producers in case the growth of imports leads to serious disruptions in the European Union market.

This decision was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen back in early July during a visit to Yerevan.
