The U.S. Federal Reserve raises its rate for the first time in three years

Following its meeting on September 15–16, the U.S. Federal Reserve raised the key rate by 25 basis points, to a level of 3.75–4% per annum, the regulator's press release says.

This is the first increase since July 2023: prior to this, the Fed had left the rate unchanged for five consecutive meetings.

This is the third meeting since the change of the Fed's chair — Kevin Warsh has held the post since the end of May.
