Pashinyan says he is taking additional Russian language courses
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is taking additional Russian language courses.
He announced this at a session of the Armenian government.
As Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Torosyan stated, in order to work more effectively, civil servants must learn foreign languages, above all English, without which international communication for officials becomes impossible. He proposed introducing a foreign language proficiency requirement into the certification of civil servants.
"Why only English? I, for example, am currently attending Russian lessons that are held at the Public Administration Academy. Someone else could take Japanese, Chinese, Spanish or German courses," the prime minister said.
He noted the importance of ridding society (especially boys and young men) of notions inherent in the criminal subculture, according to which education is considered something shameful. Because of this, in the prime minister's opinion, men are losing their competitiveness in the labor market in Armenia.
