Czech prime minister proposes creating a pan-European missile defense system
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis has proposed creating a single European missile defense system called Euro Patriot.
"We must learn from the experience of the war in Ukraine and search for an [effective] solution primarily in the field of defense against ballistic missiles," the ČTK news agency quoted the prime minister as saying. He put forward the initiative at the Prague Defense Summit.
The creation of a pan-European missile defense system, he noted, would complement NATO's defense capabilities. The Euro Patriot project, he said, could be implemented following the example of the successful European integration program for the joint production of Airbus aircraft.
The implementation of Euro Patriot, according to the prime minister, would help, in particular, the development of the Czech defense industry. Europe's goal should not be to compete with the United States, the prime minister stressed.
