Vucic explains reasons for resigning as president
Aleksandar Vucic has explained the reasons for his departure from the post of president of Serbia.
As 1news.az reports, he emphasized that he does not consider it expedient to remain in this position until April 2027, adding that he wants to take part in the campaign for the early parliamentary elections as an ordinary citizen.
He said that he wants to see whether citizens trust him and the programs and plans he has presented under conditions in which he is not in power.
"I want to join the election campaign as an ordinary citizen and see whether people trust me. I will not be in power. If they do not trust me and the programs, plans and views I have presented, let someone else win. I have no problem with that," Vucic said.
The president of Serbia noted that, according to the law, he can remain in the post of president during the election campaign, but he does not want this to give him any advantage.
Recall that Aleksandar Vucic earlier announced that he would resign on September 27. He reported that after taking part in the session of the UN General Assembly he would return to Serbia, resign, and then join the election campaign as an ordinary citizen.
Note that the early parliamentary elections in Serbia are scheduled for October 25, 2026.
Vucic also emphasized that after his resignation his main goal will be to obtain the support of citizens as a candidate for the post of head of government.
