Iraq fully opens its skies to civil aviation

The Iraqi authorities have abolished all zones that until recently were considered "military-purpose zones" and announced the full opening of the country's airspace to civilian airliner flights.

This was stated in a special announcement by the Ministry of Transport of the Arab republic.

"All zones closed to flights in Iraq's airspace are being abolished, they are being removed from the Iraqi aeronautical information publication," the document says. The ministry specified that the "military-purpose zones" listed in the publication "are no longer used for conducting military operations."

The agency also announced "the transfer of the country's entire sky and airspace under full sovereign control." As the ministry emphasized, the lifting of restrictions and the restoration of air sovereignty "will help increase the flexibility of the use of Iraq's airspace, improve civil aviation flows, and also raise the operational efficiency of air navigation."
