Grynspan leads in new vote on candidates for UN secretary-general post

UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan received the greatest support from members of the UN Security Council following the latest straw poll on candidates for the post of the organization's secretary-general. This was reported to TASS by a source at the UN.

Nine members of the Security Council spoke in favor of Grynspan's continued participation, five were against, and one more expressed no opinion. Second place went to Guyana's candidate Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett with eight votes in support and six against, while one more Security Council member abstained from expressing a position.

Next comes the former permanent representative of Uganda to the world organization, Olara Otunnu, who received five votes in support with seven votes against and three undecided. IAEA head Rafael Grossi also received five votes "in favor," however eight Security Council members came out against his candidacy, and two more expressed no opinion.

Former president of Senegal Macky Sall received five votes in support and nine votes against, while one more Security Council member did not indicate his position.
