Trump says Denmark has handed the U.S. control over Greenland's security
U.S. President Donald Trump said that Denmark has handed the United States control over Greenland on security matters.
He wrote about this on his page on Truth Social.
"At my direction, we have worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the full ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to ensure and protect the security of Greenland and the United States of America," the head of the White House wrote.
According to him, the United States plans to station a large military contingent on the island.
"We will immediately begin the process of developing a major military presence in a suitable part of Greenland, of which there are many," he wrote.
Trump said the agreement entails the transfer to the United States of permanent control over the security and all other needs of Greenland. "This will COST the United States NOTHING!" the president noted.
He also emphasized that now "no adversary of the U.S. will be able to have its base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland without our direct written approval."
