Trump says oil prices will fall after a U.S. victory in the war with Iran

The United States will win the war with Iran, which will lead to a sharp decline in world oil prices, U.S. President Donald Trump claims.

"We will win this war [with Iran] very soon. As soon as we win it, oil prices will fall, fall significantly, to the level that existed before the war," he said, answering questions from a Fox News anchor.

"From a military point of view, we have already won, but that does not mean we have stopped there. However, we are certainly winning a grand victory," claimed the American leader, who is at the Presidents Cup golf tournament in a suburb of Chicago (state of Illinois).

The United States and Israel began the war with Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached in the part concerning the Strait of Hormuz. About 25% of the world's oil trade volumes and about 20% of liquefied natural gas are transported through it. Then the U.S. administration effectively signaled an end to the use of large-scale military force against Iran and a transition to an attempt to economically strangle it through sanctions.
