Airstrike on market in Myanmar: dozens of victims

At least 49 people were killed and about 58 injured as a result of an airstrike by the air force of Myanmar's military junta on a market and a bridge in the town of Kyauktaw in Rakhine State.

Local residents reported this to the dpa agency on Tuesday, September 29.

According to eyewitnesses, a fighter jet carried out three strikes on the market rows and the bridge. Among the dead and injured were vendors, shoppers, and passersby.

Rakhine State, which borders Bangladesh, is largely controlled by the Arakan Army and remains isolated from other regions of the country amid the ongoing civil war.

The Arakan Army and the United League of Arakan stated that those responsible for the deaths of civilians would face retaliatory measures.
