Trump rejected Iran's proposal to open the Strait of Hormuz
The United States has rejected Iran's proposal to open the Strait of Hormuz, considering it insufficiently advantageous.
This was stated by U.S. President Donald Trump, Fox News reports.
"They offered to open the (Hormuz — ed. note) strait... But that is simply not enough. Not even close," the head of state said, answering a question about the reasons for refusing a truce with Tehran.
According to the American leader, at the end of September a record volume of oil was transported through the Strait of Hormuz, exceeding the figures recorded during the history of the conflict with Iran.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, nearly 13 million barrels of oil pass through Hormuz every 24 hours. As U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated, on one of the recent days more than 20 million barrels of oil passed through the strait — this figure approached pre-conflict levels.
Earlier, the British United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the intensity of commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz remains about 75% below the level recorded before the start of the conflict between the United States and Iran.
