Ayatollah Araafi Appointed as Acting Supreme Leader of Iran
Ayatollah Araafi has been appointed as a jurist and member of Iran's Expediency Discernment Council. He has been tasked with temporarily assuming the duties of the Supreme Leader.
This was reported by the Iranian news agency ISNA.
"In accordance with Article 111 of the Constitution, which states that one of the members of the Guardian Council from the category of jurists must be present in the temporary leadership council, the Expediency Discernment Council has elected Ayatollah Alireza Araafi as a member of this council, so that the management of the country can continue without interruption, and the Assembly of Experts can elect a Supreme Leader as soon as possible," wrote Mohsen Dehnavi, the official spokesperson of the Expediency Discernment Council of the Islamic Republic, on X.
