Ilham Aliyev Expresses Condolences to Georgian Prime Minister on the Passing of Ilia II
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter of condolence to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in connection with the passing of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.
The text of the message has been published on the official website of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
"We received the news of the passing of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, an outstanding religious figure of our time, His Holiness Ilia II, with a feeling of deep sorrow.
His Holiness Ilia II dedicated his entire life and work to serving his people and the noble ideals for the sake of humanity. Through his efforts to establish peace and tranquility in the Caucasus, solidarity among people, interreligious understanding, and dialogue, His Holiness Ilia II earned a place in the hearts of millions of people, regardless of their national or religious affiliation, and gained deep respect and admiration.
His Holiness Ilia II made significant contributions to the development and strengthening of the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Sharing the pain of this heavy loss, on behalf of myself and the people of Azerbaijan, I express my deepest condolences to you, the entire Georgian people, and the Georgian Orthodox Church," the message from Ilham Aliyev states.
