The Investigative Committee of Armenia rejected the request of Catholicos Garegin II
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has rejected a petition by the defense of the Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II, to allow him to visit Tbilisi and participate in the farewell ceremony for the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II.
This was reported by the Catholicos's lawyer, Ara Zohrabyan.
He recalled that Garegin II had received an invitation from the Georgian Orthodox Church to attend the funeral of Ilia II and the Divine Liturgy, which is scheduled to take place on March 22, 2026.
"Today, I received the investigator's decision to reject the petition," Zohrabyan stated.
In February, the Prosecutor's Office of Armenia initiated a criminal case against Garegin II on charges of obstructing the execution of a court order related to former clergyman Arman Saroyan. As part of the case, Garegin II has been placed under a travel ban.
