Trump supports Orbán ahead of parliamentary elections in Hungary
US President Donald Trump has once again expressed support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of the parliamentary elections in this European country. He made the corresponding post on Truth Social.
President Trump called the Hungarian prime minister a "strong leader who has proven to achieve phenomenal results." "Viktor is working hard to protect Hungary, grow its economy, create jobs, promote trade, combat illegal immigration, and maintain law and order," Trump noted, adding that relations between the US and Hungary "have reached new heights."
"I was proud to support Viktor during his reelection in 2022, and it is an honor for me to do so again," Trump emphasized. In his opinion, Orbán "will never let the Hungarian people down."
Trump had previously voiced support for the incumbent Hungarian prime minister ahead of the upcoming elections. US Vice President JD Vance concluded a two-day visit to Budapest on April 8. During a meeting with Orbán, as well as at public events, Vance wished him success in the elections.
Parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for April 12. The ruling party led by Orbán, "Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Alliance," is competing with the opposition party "Tisza," whose leader, Péter Magyar, enjoys the support of EU leadership.
