Azerbaijan and Russia agree on compensation for victims of AZAL plane crash
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation have issued a joint statement regarding the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane in December 2024 near the city of Aktau.
This was reported by 1news.az with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
The statement reads:
“In accordance with the agreements reached between the Presidents of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation during their meeting in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025, the parties have come to a proper resolution of the consequences, including the issue of compensation payments related to the crash of the Embraer 190 aircraft, owned by AZAL Airlines, near the city of Aktau on December 25, 2024, as a result of an unintentional action by an air defense system in the airspace of the Russian Federation.
The steps taken confirm the mutual desire to further build mutually beneficial cooperation within the framework of allied interaction.
We express confidence that the progressive development of Azerbaijani-Russian relations based on mutual respect, trust, and consideration of the interests of both sides will continue to contribute to the strengthening of good-neighborly relations and the expansion of cooperation in the interests of the peoples of the two states.
We once again extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who perished in the aircraft crash and share the pain of this irreparable loss with all those affected by the tragedy.”
