In Azerbaijan, amnesty act applied to over 22,000 individuals

The amnesty, declared in connection with the 'Year of Constitution and Sovereignty,' has been extended to 22,935 individuals.

As reported by APA, this information was provided by the press service of the Ministry of Justice.

'This decision, which is another manifestation of the state's humanistic policy, is the most extensive amnesty in terms of the number of individuals it covers among those adopted to date. Thus, this amnesty act, the 13th of its kind, has been applied to a total of 22,935 individuals.

Of the individuals covered by the amnesty, 5,348 have been released from imprisonment for a fixed term. Additionally, the unserved portion of the imprisonment sentence for 3,555 convicts has been reduced by 6 months,' the statement reads.

It was noted that the 13 amnesty acts adopted since 1996 collectively demonstrate the priority that the state places on humanism, more effective protection of human rights, and social justice in its criminal policy.
