Employees of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have detained 55 foreigners who were in the republic illegally in recent days, including citizens of Russia.

This was stated in a message from the press service of the agency.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, citizens of Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Côte d'Ivoire, Pakistan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan were detained in Georgia.

Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the places of residence of the illegal migrants. They also inspected their workplaces. It was found that the migrants were in the country in violation of migration legislation, the agency added. At the moment, all detainees have been taken to a temporary migrant accommodation center, and work is underway to deport them from the country.

In Georgia, there has been an active fight against illegal migrants recently. The country's parliament has tightened migration legislation, simplifying deportation procedures as well as migrant searches. Every month, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reports the deportation of dozens of foreign citizens.
