Pashinyan: In 2022, we made a game-changing decision with the president of Azerbaijan
During the 1st summit of the European Political Community held in Prague in 2022, at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Charles Michel, a quadrilateral meeting was organized with the participation of the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan, and it was there that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and I made a game-changing decision.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during the plenary session of the 8th summit of the European Political Community on May 4.
According to him, at that time, Armenia and Azerbaijan recognized each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. He added that this agreement created a real opportunity to achieve a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, outlined the architecture of future peace, and led to the August 2025 Washington Peace Summit. Pashinyan recalled that at the White House, with the support and participation of U.S. President Donald Trump, the President of Azerbaijan and he signed a peace declaration.
"The President of the United States also signed it as a witness. In the presence of the three leaders, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan initialed the agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We are now on a path that will lead to the implementation of a very important project – TRIPP. It will promote peace through the unblocking of regional communications, the creation of new international routes from East to West and from South to North, making a tremendous contribution to the resilience of international supply chains," concluded the Prime Minister of Armenia.
