Sand extraction from the Araz River bed planned to resume under new rules
The Armenian government will develop a project aimed at regulating sand extraction from the bed of the border river Araz.
The corresponding decision was made at a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
Uncontrolled sand extraction has led to changes in the riverbed, which could pose risks to the state border line. Due to this, the volume of work was restricted.
At the same time, the construction sector has requested the resumption of extraction at previous levels due to high demand for sand.
As a result, the government intends to commission the development of a standard project that will allow extraction without altering the riverbed. For this purpose, 25.2 million drams (approximately $66,000) will be allocated.
